The specificity of the project lies in the method used to define the urban space in the world in a uniform way. Urban agglomeration is a continuous built-up area where at least 10.000 inhabitants live. The continuity is defined by a maximum distance of 200 meters between two constructions. Geopolis is the only database which allows an international comparison of city sizes, beyond the diversity of national official definitions of urban units.
