The e-Geopolis program

- This program aims at updating what we know about the world’s urbanization and the dynamics of distribution of the world population from 1800 to nowadays.

- The creation of e-Geopolis website aims at spreading and increasing the value of a corpus of statistical data about the world population which describes the evolution of more than 50.000 towns.

- The program consists in completing and comparing two pieces of information in order to create a new source of knowledge : ATS archives which in a database population, compile censuses available for each state from 1800 to nowadays, and the geographical database Geopolis for towns of 10.000 inhabitants and more.

- The concept of urban agglomeration leads to the proposal of a unique and systematic methodology to understand urbanization for the whole world and on a long term historical perspective.
